About the Program
The legal landscape of the workplace in the United States is ever-changing, and 2009 has seen some of the most sweeping changes ever. Amendments and new regulations that became effective in 2009 already have altered employers' obligations, and the President and Congress are considering other sweeping changes. Join Ford & Harrison attorneys Stephen Lueke and Jesse Caryl for a breakfast briefing co-hosted by the L.A. Chamber of Commerce and the L.A. Hotel Association to discuss recent developments and some of the most significant proposed labor and employment legislation:

2009 Labor & Employment Law Update
This session will highlight recent changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and COBRA, and the steps you should take to ensure your workplace is compliant. You also will learn about other potential legislation that may impact the employer- employee relationship.

The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)
Considered organized labor's "top legislative priority" for 2009, EFCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act and radically change labor-managment relations in the United States. If passed, EFCA would make it much easier for employees to form unions in non-unionized workplaces and significantly reduce the employer bargaining power on first contracts. Learn how EFCA - in either its current or compromised form - would change the current state of labor relations and what you can do to protect your workplace for the future.
