Alex Harne focuses his practice on the representation of management in employment law matters.

Alex advises and advocates for employers in discrimination and retaliation claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Title VII, as well as in wage and hour disputes and other issues related to employment and labor law. Alex also counsels employers on a variety of personnel issues including employee handbooks and safety manuals, family and medical leave and other leave policies, and employment separation agreements.      

Prior to joining FordHarrison, Alex served as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, as well as for a major real estate investment company. Alex has additional corporate and court experience including working as a law clerk in the general counsel's office of a pharmaceutical company. He has also gained extensive research and writing experience through law clerk and judicial internship positions in the City of Miami Attorney's Office, the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, and the Lee County Attorney's Office.

In addition to Alex's legal experience, he has first-hand legislation experience, having worked in the office of two state representatives as a Legislative Scholar. This role included tracking bills, attending various legislative committee meetings, providing analysis of newly-introduced legislation, meeting with representatives of interest groups and corresponding with the Representatives’ constituents.

Representative Experience
  • Conducted extensive analysis and investigation of numerous discrimination and/or retaliation claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Florida Commission on Human Relations.
  • Successfully revamped employee handbook and safety manual for a well known not-for-profit organization.
  • Obtained favorable outcomes for local employers in defense of claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
