Richard Malahowski focuses his practice on all areas of labor law, including labor litigation and arbitration, as well as general corporate law, administrative law, and commercial contracts.
Prior to joining FordHarrison, Richard was Chief Labor Counsel for American Airlines, Inc. During his 33 years with the company, he provided legal counselling and advice in a broad array of substantive legal areas, including, but not limited to, all aspects of labor law. He not only provided these legal services directly, but also supervised other internal attorneys and support personnel in performing those services. In addition, he selected and managed outside counsel who provided those kinds of legal services and who handled litigation and arbitration. His performance of these legal services covered the entire spectrum of airline labor law, such as contract negotiation and mediation, rights arbitration, interest arbitration, union representation disputes, a Presidential Emergency Board, strike legal preparations, labor injunction proceedings, legal preparations for possible bankruptcy, FAA enforcement proceedings, and litigation related to all of these topics.
Prior to law school, Richard served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator. Also, he flew for American as a pilot for a time in addition to continuing as an attorney in American's Legal Department.
