Ford & Harrison Partner Patricia G. Griffith Named Chair of The Atlanta Shakespeare Company

Date   Jun 8, 2011

Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, is pleased to announce that Patricia G. Griffith, an Atlanta-based attorney, has recently been named Chair of the Board of Directors of The Atlanta Shakespeare Company (ASC).

The Atlanta Shakespeare Company is a group known for its bright and talented professionals who interpret, direct, produce and perform the works of William Shakespeare. ASC's mission is to expand on the exploration of Elizabethan stagecraft and theatrical techniques, where all the work is guided by a single clarion principle that ASC reveres above all others: the voice of the playwright. This is true whether the company is presenting an original piece, an American classic, or a timeless masterpiece by William Shakespeare. In all cases, each production is a process that begins with the way each play was originally staged in its own time and ends with a modern audience experiencing the play in a manner consistent with its creator's original intent.

"The Atlanta Shakespeare Company is a vital part of this community, especially with its educational emphasis on bringing some of the world's best literature to life for young audiences and ensuring a lifetime of appreciation for perhaps the greatest playwright of all time, said Griffith.  "I am honored to be part of such an organization."

Griffith is a trial lawyer, focused on employment law, primarily in federal court. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Girls on the Run, an international organization focused on educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Evergreen Humanitarian and Relief Services.  She  has  also volunteered  for Friends of the Atlanta Opera and was Chairperson of its Board from 1999-2001.  Griffith received her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, with honors, in 1982.

About The Atlanta Shakespeare Company
The Atlanta Shakespeare Company was founded in 1984 when "As You Like It" opened for a one week run at Manuel's Tavern on North Highland Avenue in Atlanta. Ultimately attracting national attention, this modest production became the defining experience for what would ultimately become America's only Shakespeare Tavern.
