FordHarrison Expands Orlando, Florida Office with Addition of New Partner Marilyn Moran

Date   Jun 10, 2014
FordHarrison LLP is pleased to announce that Marilyn G. Moran, a veteran employment attorney, has joined the firm as a Partner in the Orlando office.

Marilyn, who has more than 12 years of experience as a management-side employment attorney, comes from BakerHostetler.  She is a leading attorney in defense of employers in cases involving complex employment issues, including wage and hour collective actions, discrimination class actions, and non-compete cases.  Marilyn said she is thrilled to join FordHarrison and looks forward to helping her colleagues identify and serve the needs of their clients.  "I truly care about people," Marilyn said.  "My number one goal is for clients to see me as a loyal and trusted advisor whom they can turn to, day or night, when they need help making tough decisions and developing employment practices that will grow and protect their businesses."  Marilyn added, "I am honored to work alongside the attorneys at FordHarrison who are unmatched in their professional acumen and personal integrity."

"We are excited to have an attorney with Marilyn's experience and enthusiasm join FordHarrison," said Aaron Zandy, the Office Managing Partner of FordHarrison's Orlando office. "Her wealth of knowledge regarding employment law and her strong commitment to outstanding client service make her a valuable addition to the Orlando office and to the firm."

Upon graduation from law school, Marilyn initially worked as a state prosecutor in Sarasota, Florida.  She became interested in employment law during a clerkship for U.S. District Court Judge Gregory A. Presnell in the Middle District of Florida.  "Actually, I had every intention of becoming a federal prosecutor after my clerkship, but there was a hiring freeze in the Department of Justice at the time.  Judge Presnell asked me what other type of law interested me, and I told him that I loved employment law because it is a challenging and dynamic area of law and, let's face it, it's just plain fun and never dull because we spend most of our lives at work."

Following her clerkship, Marilyn got involved with the Federal Bar Association as a way to stay in touch with the federal judges and law clerks she worked with during her clerkship.  She served as the President of the Orlando Chapter in 2010.

A seasoned litigator, Marilyn has represented numerous high-profile companies in a variety of industries, including healthcare, energy, hospitality, restaurant and foodservice, manufacturing, banking and finance, technology, transportation, family entertainment, broadcasting, and global security and defense.  Earlier this year, she launched "Florida Employers Law Blog," an employment law blog for business owners, human resource professionals, and in-house counsel (www.floridaemployerslawblog.wordpress.com).   In addition, Marilyn frequently participates in client seminars and speaking engagements and has volunteered as a guest lecturer, moderator, and judge for organizations including the University of Central Florida, FAMU College of Law, Barry University's Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Conference.

In 2010, Marilyn was recognized as a "Florida Rising Star" by SuperLawyers magazine. More recently, she was appointed to serve on the Middle District of Florida's Grievance Committee and the Federal Court Practice Committee of the Florida Bar.

Prior to working at FordHarrison, Marilyn practiced employment law at BakerHostetler and Akerman in Orlando.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida and her law degree from the University of Florida College of Law where she graduated with honors and received numerous awards for scholarship in jurisprudence, legal writing, and trial advocacy.
