Tim Bland has been representing employers in employment law matters for more than 15 years. He defends companies in all areas of employment discrimination litigation, advises clients on employment law matters, performs training for clients, and assists clients with employee handbooks and policies. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to working with clients on Americans with Disabilities Act and Family and Medical Leave Act issues and cases. He has represented clients before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and a number of other federal and state courts.
Tim is a member of the Memphis Rotary Club, Memphis Metropolitan Hotel & Lodging Association and the University of Illinois Alumni Association.
Tim has authored numerous articles for national and local publications including HR Magazine, Security Management Magazine, Labor Law Journal and the Memphis Business Journal. He has been quoted by national publications including The New York Times, USA Today, CFO Magazine, HR Magazine, and Workforce Magazine. He is a former Vice-Chair of the Society for Human Resource Management's national Workplace Diversity Committee.
Tim was a member of the University of Illinois Law Review during law school. His BBA from Memphis State University is in Management, with a concentration in Human Resource Management.
Recent Experience
- Served as co-counsel, representing the Society for Human Resources Management in preparing an Amicus Curiae brief for the U.S. Supreme Court in the ADA case Sutton, et.al. v. United Airlines, Inc.
- Obtained summary judgment in ADA case on behalf of an employer
- Successfully resolved sexual harassment case on behalf of a client
- Assisted client in curbing excessive FMLA use by employees
