About the Program

The legal landscape of the workplace in Illinois and in the United States is ever-changing, and 2009 holds the potential for some of the most sweeping changes ever. Amendments and new regulations that became effective in 2009 already have altered employers' obligations, and President Obama and Congress will likely consider additional changes. Join Ford & Harrison attorneys to discuss recent developments and some of the most significant developments in labor and employment law, including:

  • The Employee Free Choice Act - Recently reintroduced in the House, EFCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act and radically change labor-management relations in the United States.
  • Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act - Signed into law on January 29, 2009, this act amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and opens the door for more pay discrimination lawsuits.
  • The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - The recently enacted economic stimulus legislation contains revisions to COBRA related to employers.
  • ADA Amendments Act of 2008 - Changes to the ADA became effective on January 1, 2009 giving broader protections to disabled workers.
  • FMLA Amendments - Changes to the FMLA became effective on January 16, 2009 and include provisions for military caregiver leave.
  • Update on jury trial option allowed under 2008 changes to the Illinois Human Rights Act.

The Human Resources Certification Institute has approved this program for 3.25 hours of general PHR/SPHR/GPHR recertification credit. Approval from the MCLE Board of the Supreme Court of Illinois is pending for 3.25 hours of general CLE credit.
