Stef Ramirez devotes her legal practice to representing management clients in matters related to labor and employment law. 

Prior to joining FordHarrison as an associate, Stef spent two summers in the firm's Atlanta office as a Summer Associate and as a Summer Associate/1L Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholar in both the Atlanta and New York City offices. Through this experience she gained skills in performing legal research, drafting legal memoranda, and revising personnel handbooks. 

In law school, Stef was inducted into the National Order of the Barristers, was awarded the CALI Award in Advanced Legal Writing, was a Finalist and earned Best Brief Runner-up in the 2019 Intrastate Moot Court Competition, and won the 2019 James C. Estes Moot Court Award. She was also heavily involved in organizational activities including serving as the Co-President for the Hispanic Law Students Association, Secretary for the Association of Women Law Students, and Co-Editor of the Mercer Advocacy Council Instraschool Moot Court Competition. 

Representative Experience
  • Conducted extensive legal research and drafted memoranda on substantive and procedural issues pertaining to claims on discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims under numerous employment laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, and state and local laws.
  • Regularly prepares position statements and has experience reviewing and creating employee handbooks and policies.
  • Experience advising employers in matters pertaining to background check policies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and applicable state law.
  • Worked in-house in the legal department for a major transportation company. During her time in-house, Stef worked on various employment and labor law-related matters, including:
    • Advising on wage and hour compliance, including misclassification, minimum wage, overtime claims, and meal and rest break claims;
    • Advising on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) and local safety and health requirements, including operator safety requirements at both the federal and state level;
    • Advising on various aspects of a legally-compliant drug testing policy, including compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation drug testing regulations;
    • In light of COVID-19, provided advice and guidance on reductions-in-force (“RIF”), including making defensible employee RIF selection decisions, analyzing proposed RIF decisions, and drafting enforceable releases and Older Worker Benefit Protection Act disclosures.
    • Overall, developed insight on the workplace law needs of domestic trucking and warehousing employers.
