Destiny Washington focuses her legal practice on the representation and counsel of management in employment law and labor relations disputes. 

Destiny has an extensive background representing clients both in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. She has advised clients in all manner of employment law disputes including claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations. She also has experience in labor relations, counseling clients on the legal issues related to union campaigns, collective bargaining, and arbitrations. 

Destiny serves as a Co-Editor for the Georgia Employment Law Letter and as a Georgia Co-Editor for the 50 Employment Laws in 50 States publication, both published by BLR ®. She is also a contributing author for EntertainHR, FordHarrison's blog that covers the landscape of television, movies, and celebrity culture from an employment-law perspective.

Destiny is also a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the Louisiana Army National Guard.    

Prior to joining FordHarrison, Destiny was a Senior Associate in an Atlanta-based law firm, primarily handling employment law issues. Destiny's background also includes experience in the Atlanta Public Schools' Office of Employee Relations, and serving an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Atlanta as well as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia.

She began her legal career as an attorney with the Service Employees International Union where she gained experience counseling the union during labor disputes and contract negotiations as well as representing union members in arbitrations regarding collective bargaining agreements.

Representative Experience
  • Successfully resolved claims of retaliation under the state whistleblower law against a metro-Atlanta school district.
  • Successfully resolved claims of Federal Labor Standards Act violations involving overtime pay for a K-9 officer against a metro-Atlanta police department.
  • Represented state agencies, school boards, counties and cities in hundreds of federal and state litigation and administrative proceedings in over 50 different jurisdictions.
  • Secured dozens of employee terminations and disciplinary actions through administrative hearings which were held pursuant to the Fair Dismissal Act and various other civil service ordinances. Also handled any subsequent appeals to state court.
  • Wrote personnel-related charter provisions, ordinances and policies for local governmental entities and trained management regarding the same.
  • Acted as a metro-Atlanta superintendent’s designee for the employee grievance process. Heard grievances and wrote decisions.
  • Drafted and negotiated dozens of employment contracts for private and public clients.
  • Successfully prosecuted breach of employment contract actions in state court for metro-Atlanta police departments.
  • Advised metro-Atlanta police departments and school districts regarding the legal sufficiency of hundreds of internal investigations and accordingly recommended disciplinary action.
