ATLANTA – Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, announces its expansion in Florida with the opening of the firm’s fifth office in the state located in Melbourne. Andrew S. Hament joins the firm as partner in the office that officially opened on December 15. Mr. Hament, formerly a partner with GrayRobinson, will continue representing clients in the areas of labor and employment law.
“We are delighted that Andy has agreed to join Ford & Harrison and contribute to our growth in Florida by opening our Melbourne office,” said Tom Garwood, the firm’s Florida regional managing partner. “His experience with businesses in the Space and Treasure Coast area of eastern Florida as well as his distinguished reputation as a labor and employment lawyer will be of great benefit to our firm.”
Mr. Hament represents private and public employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including discrimination and wrongful discharge litigation, employment and severance agreements, whistleblower investigations and litigation, non-compete and trade secret litigation, wage and hour cases, union organizing, collective bargaining, strike and picketing situations, and grievance arbitrations. He provides counseling in all aspects of the employment relationship including sexual harassment, drug abuse and drug testing, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the growing concerns about violence in the workplace. He regularly represents employers in labor and employment related lawsuits in state and federal courts and in investigations and charges before a variety of agencies. In 2003, he presented a case to the U.S. Supreme Court, where he was successful in establishing an important precedent regarding an employer’s right to remove wage and hour lawsuits filed under the Fair Labor Standards Act from state court to federal court.
“I am excited about joining Ford & Harrison which I believe is one of the leading labor and employment law firms in the country,” explained Hament. “As today’s workplace laws are becoming more complex, I wanted to join a firm with a national presence that would allow me to continue to offer my clients responsive and cost-effective legal services.”
Mr. Hament received his law degree from University of Baltimore School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University. He is board certified by the Florida Bar in Employment Law and has been named to The Best Lawyers in America, “Florida Legal Elite” and Florida Super Lawyers. He is also active in the Melbourne/ Brevard County community where he serves a Director of the South Brevard Society for Human Resource Management, the United Way of Brevard County, The Arc of Brevard and Holy Trinity Academy.
