The Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that it will host a free webinar on June 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm EST to help workers and employers understand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  According to the DOL, participants will have the opportunity to submit questions that will be answered by an FMLA expert from the department.

The DOL has also published a 16-page booklet entitled
"Need Time? The Employee's Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act."  The booklet is designed to answer questions such as who can take qualifying leave and what protections the law provides, and is available at http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/employeeguide.htm. The Employee Guide specifically addresses:

  • Who can use FMLA? (Coverage and Eligibility)
  • When can I use FMLA? (Qualifying reasons to take FMLA)
  • What can the FMLA do for me? (FMLA rights and protections)
  • How do I request FMLA leave?
  • Communication with Employer (Employer and Employee Notices)
  • Medical Certification
  • Returning to Work (Reinstatement rights) and
  • How to File a Complaint

The webinar and booklet are part of the DOL's continuing effort to "spread the word about the FMLA and make the FMLA more accessible."
