About the Program
Headlines reporting violence in educational institutions have become part of our daily news. As lawmakers search for answers in gun regulation and other safety measures to protect students, faculty and staff, there are practical, everyday steps that educational institutions can take to lower the possibility that violence will befall their doorsteps. This symposium is designed to provide school administrators, educators in the field of special education and human resource professionals with information about risk factors and how to address concerning behavior by students and employees alike. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Hiring considerations
  • Conducting training
  • Monitoring staff and student behavior
  • Privacy concerns
  • Students in special education
  • Student restraint
  • When to involve law enforcement or child protective services
  • Addressing parental concern

Continuing Education
