Date   Jan 24, 2019

FordHarrison LLP, one of the country’s largest management-side labor and employment law firms, is pleased to announce that Angela B. Cummings and Julie K. Adams were listed as “2019 North Carolina Super Lawyers” by Super Lawyers Magazine.

Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their legal practice. Attorneys are chosen for this honor through a statewide nomination process, peer review by practice area and independent research on candidates. The rigorous process is designed to identify lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only five percent of attorneys in the state of North Carolina are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers.

Angela has successfully represented employers in all aspects of employment law for almost two decades. She litigates federal and state court cases arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and other federal and state employment laws. Angela is at home in both state and federal courts in North Carolina, in arbitrations, and in front of state and federal administrative agencies (including EEOC, USDOL and NCDOL). She also has experience litigating class and collective actions, including wage and hour cases, as well as experience handling EEOC systemic investigations and Commissioner charges. In addition to her litigation experience, Angela counsels employers on strategies for avoiding litigation. She knows her clients, and their industries, inside and out so that she is able to provide practical and meaningful advice. She has successfully represented employers in jury and bench trials and has been instrumental in shaping favorable employer-side case law through reported decisions. Angela also possesses significant experience training Human Resources professionals, managers and employees with respect to legal compliance. She also frequently writes articles on employment law topics for a variety of news and legal publications.

Julie concentrates her legal practice on the representation of management in labor and employment law matters. She represents employers in the retail, hospitality, technology, manufacturing and healthcare industries, among others. This representation has included providing advice and counsel on discrimination and harassment suits on the basis of age, race, national origin, gender, and disability, leave issues, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, and retaliation claims. As such, she is well-versed in matters arising under Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act, and various North Carolina state employment laws. Julie has represented clients in state and federal courts, and has handled administrative charges before state and federal administrative agencies including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the North Carolina Department of Labor, the North Carolina Industrial Commission, and the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. She is also adept at counseling employers to reduce the risk of potential litigation and provides advice on the business and legal ramifications of day-to-day employment decisions.
