Rose, Partners in the firm’s Hartford office, have been selected to the 2017 “Connecticut Super Lawyers” list. Cindy M. Cieslak, Senior Associate in the Hartford office, has been named to the 2017 “Connecticut Rising Stars” list.
Attorneys are selected for this honor through a statewide nomination process, peer review by practice area and independent research on candidates. This rigorous process is designed to identify lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only five percent of attorneys in the state of Connecticut are named “Super Lawyers.”
The Rising Stars list recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state – those who are 40 years old or younger, or those who have been practicing for 10 years or less. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
Robin Kallor regularly advises and represents employers on a broad range of labor and employment matters involving discrimination, retaliation, Fair Labor Standards Act, National Labor Relations Act, breach of contract and any other matters that pertain to the employer-employee relationship in both the unionized and non-union settings. In doing so, she often appears in state and federal courts, as well as in proceedings before government administrative agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the New York State Division on Human Rights, the National Labor Relations Board, the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations, the Connecticut State Board of Mediation and Arbitration and the federal and state departments of labor. In her defense of civil rights and other employment related litigation, she has frequently obtained pretrial dismissal or other satisfactory conclusion in both the federal and state courts.
Michael Rose is widely recognized as one of Connecticut's leading employment litigators in his representation of governments, government officials, and businesses. He has tried over 40 cases to verdict in the areas of employment law and civil rights. He has argued numerous times before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Connecticut Appellate Court, and before the Connecticut Supreme Court. In addition to representing employers in federal and state courts, Michael provides representation before numerous government agencies, including the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, state and federal Departments of Labor and the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission. He serves as General Counsel to the Connecticut State Employees Retirement Commission, where he provides legal advice to the Trustees who oversee Connecticut's state employee pension funds.
Cindy Cieslak's practice focuses on all aspects of labor and employment litigation in state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies, including the defense of municipal and private employers against claims of discrimination, wage and hour violations, breach of contract, free speech retaliation, whistleblower retaliation, and other civil rights violations. Cindy also provides advice to employers regarding compliance with labor and employment laws, and she prepares employee handbooks and best practices manuals for employers. Additionally, Cindy assists employers with affirmative action plans, OFCCP audits, and compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to government contractors.
