Date   Sep 20, 2016
Time   12:00 - 1:00

About the Program
Please join FordHarrison attorney Joy White for a complimentary webinar on navigating transgender employee rights in the workplace.

In the past few years, transgender individuals have been at the forefront of discussion in Congress, the Supreme Court, federal agencies, and state and local legislatures. While some consensus has emerged, the issues surrounding gender identity in the workplace are complex and multidimensional. There is a growing tension between federal agency regulations and proposed state and local legislation regarding the use of sex-specific facilities, transitioning in the workplace, and access to specific health benefits. These politically divisive issues present practical and legal challenges for all employers.

Joy will explain basic terms and transgender-related concepts, including how “gender identity” differs from “gender expression” and what it means to “transition.” This webinar will also review important court cases tracking the evolution of federal and state laws prohibiting gender identity discrimination, provide practical tips for accommodating transgender employees, and discuss employer best practices for maintaining a legally compliant workplace for transgender employees.
